How to position your Computer monitor to reduce eye strain

Staring at a computer screen for a long time, can cause eyestrain, blurry vision, dry eyes or headache. Avoid working long hours at the computer. If your profession does require continuous computer interaction then take these precautions:

  • Monitor should be placed directly in front of you so that you do not have to twist your head or neck to view the screen.
  • Monitor should be placed at least an arm’s length away from you.
  • Position your computer so that the top edge of the monitor is at the eye level. This allows you to look slightly down at the screen. When you are seated comfortably on your chair, your eyes will rest on a line which is about 2-3″ inches below the top edge of the monitor.
  • Try to avoid glare on your computer from windows and lights. Use an anti-glare screen if needed.
  • Choose a comfortable, supportive chair. Position it so that your thighs are parallel to the floor and feet rests in a flat position.

It is a good practice to take short intermittent breaks, and move around your work-place. This will reduce eye strain and improve overall health.
